Ruff Day Rescue is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to saving large-breed dogs in high-kill shelters in California and beyond through rescue, foster, and adoption. We are 100% funded through adoption fees and donations. We believe every dog deserves a chance at a forever home, and we aim to make a difference in the world, one dog at a time!

Every year, ~390,000 dogs are euthanized in U.S. shelters (ASPCA). These are often perfectly good dogs that have simply ended up in shelters without sufficient funding, staffing, and space. RDR rescues these dogs and gets them into homes where they can thrive.

RDR also recognizes that a community without pet over-population, abuse, neglect, homelessness, and other animal welfare issues begins with the education of youth and adults alike. From adult informational seminars and classroom presentations to youth enrichment camps and shelter activities, we strive to make animal-care knowledge available to all.

Finally, RDR wholeheartedly believes and advocates that our dogs save human lives, too. Medical News Today reported on a study that showed that owning a dog reduces a person’s risk of premature death by up to a third. Also, researchers at Harvard suggest that dog owners have a lower risk of heart disease. Dogs reduce stress, anxiety, and depression; ease loneliness; encourage exercise; and improve our overall health.
